And La Maison de la Danse was born

In the past few years, Dance is Ancient has been organizing Contexts. Contexts were series of dance performances and workshops gathered over a shorter period of time. During those times, we revived performances from Dance is Ancient’s repertoire and shared Frédéric’s practice, technosomatics with our audience. After the success of Context 2022, we decided that it was time to take the project to the next level.

Dance is Ancient’s vision is to develop a closer connection with our audience and to create a new economy of production - slower, with the possibility to dive deeper into each new production and to integrate the creation process to our regular activities with the audience. In the same way, we want to anchor our activities locally. We want to share what we share internationally and in higher education system with our local audience, with anyone curious about dance, techno music, body and movement.

On those premisces, we have built La Maison de la Danse. La Maison de la Danse follows the same guidelines as the Contexts before it. But it does it over longer periods of time and builds a firm bridge between our work as a dance company, and our identity as an organizer of dance and audience-based activities. La Maison de la Danse aims at offering regular meetings between our team and the audience. It aims at opening the doors, both metaphorically and physically, to our choreographic work, influences and network.

Rehearsals at Ungdomens Hus, Context 2022

During the season 2023 and in the coming years, La Maison de la Danse will be hosted in various venues - mostly in Malmö. From 2026 an onwards we hope to give La Maison de la Danse a fixed venue so that our own doors can welcome an even broader range of activities and experiences and so that our doors can litteraly remain open as often as possible.

Come and build the next chapter with us at the first edition of La Maison de la Danse during the Spring 2023!
